Member-only story
You should see me today after being diagnosed with a form of Lou Gehrigs’s disease 12 years ago and Front Temporal Dementia 10 years ago
The fact that I can even write this story standing in front of my raised desk and type this with no assistance at all should be utterly surprising. I am walking better than I did when I was diagnosed and had an 83% gain in the stock market last year. When my neurologist saw me walking for the first time he said I have never seen anyone walk like you. I replied can you be more specific on what you are seeing and he said I can’t even put it in words. When I spoke to my third doctor after taking the third four hour test on my dementia she said I am very concerned for you and your condition because this last test had the worst results and when we hang up, I want your wife to check your medications because you are probably out of them and only taking them occasionally if at all. I told her that I am still paying the bills and functionally able to bath and dress myself and she said it is just a matter of time before she will be taking care of you as my deterioration from the last test is distressing her. I suggested that my wife and two adult sons should come in with me for an appointment to understand our future.
I wrote this six months ago and did not publish because my articles written before have earned me less than $1. Wondering if anyone is interested if I write more.
